I was a client, first. Getting through daily life on the outside, but stuck --frequently wound tight, numb, disconnected, shut-down, or overwhelmed-- on the inside. I also didn't have any clue why some days were great, full of magical sparkles and unicorns, and others felt like slogging through pea soup.
I knew there must be a better option, and so began my search. I sampled diverse flavors of psychotherapy, mindfulness and spirituality, realizing eventually that my ticket to deep change wasn't through meditation or talking (though both are important!). I couldn't stick to a meditation practice, and talking hadn't done much to change my patterns (though it did make me painfully aware of them!), and besides, there were some things I wasn't yet ready to talk about. Working directly with the body, though, meant talking was optional. I found someone I felt I could trust to work with, and dove in.
As I began to gain familiarity, language and insight into my experience through my body, I began to get nerdy. I didn't want to only do my therapeutic work during sessions, I wanted my therapist to teach me how to do it on myself! From there, it wasn't much of a leap to seeing a future supporting others as I had been supported myself.
So, I began getting trained in the core approaches that helped me find my greater aliveness, helped me live a truer and brighter version of myself. I couldn't wait to walk alongside others reclaiming their aliveness and purpose, too. That was in 2018, and I haven't looked back.
